Act always so as to increase the number of choices

Nowadays, agility empowers everyone to be both a
decision-maker and an agent in one person. In the interest of an effective
agency, we must continually learn and resist the temptation to seek simple
solutions. The law of requisite variety states that a system that controls
another system can compensate for more disruptions with a greater variety of
actions in the control process. To avoid limiting ourselves, we should,
therefore, be open to new solutions. (based on Heinz von Foerster)
New approaches for the VUCA world, e.g. like actively
changing perspectives and conducting business exercises, open up new options.
- Change of
perspective
The leading cause of developing a one-sided solution is persisting in a single point of view, although adjacent perspectives offer new alternatives. In the 3D-Action-Frame, changing locations, looking back in time, or exploring different strategic paths, as well as various technical perspectives, reveal previously overlooked facts that challenge long-held beliefs. Mentally adopting different roles (e.g., those of customers or suppliers) also offers valuable insights. A change of perspective ALWAYS increases the options.
- Business
Exercises
In a safe learning environment where maximum learning success occurs through practical action, participants can openly engage with their behavior and its effects. In "simulations" tailored to their own business, they face unfamiliar tasks. Participants respond with their behavioral repertoire and experiences to explore new areas of action.
The short-term savings achieved by limiting ourselves
to one solution waste many times the resources required to develop at least
three proposals from the outset.
