Doing the right thing right

Peter Drucker stated that productivity means the
ability to do the right things (effectiveness) as opposed to doing things right
(efficiency). This defines and prioritizes the two dimensions of agency:
effectiveness and efficiency.
- Effectiveness describes the focus on the essentials, i.e., refraining from doing what is not part of the task. Relieved resources are then available for actual tasks, increasing productivity and quality.
- Efficiency describes the use of resources in an economical manner through defined requirements, appropriate procedures, and value-added applications. It increases profitability, brand value, and the sustainability of the results.
Right is what is
accepted, functions correctly, fits precisely, and is comprehensive and
practical. Benefits arise from doing the right thing (effectiveness) right
(efficiency). It is an optimization approach that can be achieved with
determination and in-house means.
